Lagos Governor Sanwo-Olu Mourns Buhari, Hails Late President’s Exemplary Leadership

Published:

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has joined the nation in mourning former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing his passing as an irreplaceable loss to Nigeria’s political landscape. In an emotionally charged condolence message released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, the governor painted a portrait of Buhari as a leader whose life embodied courage, discipline and selfless service to the nation.

Governor Sanwo-Olu’s tribute highlighted Buhari’s unique trajectory through Nigeria’s governance history – from his early days as military governor and petroleum minister to his historic return as democratically elected president. “He sacrificed the greater part of his life in service, leaving an unblemished record of patriotic duty across multiple administrations,” the governor stated, emphasizing Buhari’s rare distinction of leading Nigeria both as military head of state and civilian president.

The Lagos helmsman particularly noted Buhari’s transparent leadership style and developmental contributions, which he said set a standard for future generations of public servants. “His commitment to Nigeria’s growth was never in doubt – whether as the disciplined military officer who spearheaded the War Against Indiscipline or as the civilian president who championed anti-corruption reforms,” Sanwo-Olu reflected. The governor’s message extended heartfelt sympathies to President Bola Tinubu, the Buhari family, Katsina State, and the All Progressives Congress (APC), which counted the late statesman among its founding pillars.

Sanwo-Olu’s tribute concluded with a prayer for divine comfort for Hajia Aisha Buhari and the people of Daura, while asking Nigerians to honor the departed leader’s legacy by upholding the values of integrity and patriotic service he exemplified throughout his 80 years of impactful life.
