The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intensified its nationwide crackdown on illicit drug trafficking by declaring an alleged drug kingpin, Nnamuka Kelvin Uchenna, popularly known as “Odogwu,” and three of his associates wanted over their alleged involvement in operating a clandestine methamphetamine production laboratory and laundering proceeds from illicit drug trafficking.

The anti-narcotics agency also announced that it had secured court orders freezing multiple bank accounts linked to the suspects, containing a combined balance of ₦9.84 billion, while obtaining interim forfeiture of several high-value assets believed to be proceeds of drug-related crimes.

The development marks one of the agency’s largest financial crackdowns in recent years, underscoring its renewed commitment to dismantling drug trafficking syndicates and disrupting their financial networks.

According to the NDLEA, investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly operated a sophisticated clandestine methamphetamine laboratory used for the production of hard drugs for local distribution and international trafficking.

As part of ongoing investigations, the Agency said it successfully traced and secured interim forfeiture of numerous luxury assets allegedly acquired through proceeds of illicit drug trafficking.

Among the assets forfeited are:

  • A fully operational filling station;
  • Several multi-storey residential and commercial buildings;
  • Four Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs); and
  • Multiple bank accounts with a combined balance of ₦9.84 billion.

The NDLEA disclosed that the suspects are currently on the run, prompting the agency to declare them wanted and appeal to members of the public to provide useful information that could lead to their arrest.

The Agency reiterated that anyone found aiding, harbouring or shielding the suspects from law enforcement would face prosecution under the provisions of the NDLEA Act and other relevant laws.

NDLEA Intensifies Financial Disruption Strategy

Security analysts say the freezing of nearly ₦10 billion linked to suspected drug trafficking demonstrates the Agency’s increasing emphasis on targeting the financial backbone of organised criminal networks.

Rather than focusing solely on arrests and drug seizures, the NDLEA has in recent years strengthened its intelligence-led operations by tracing illicit financial flows, confiscating assets and prosecuting money laundering offences connected to narcotics trafficking.

The strategy aligns with international best practices aimed at depriving criminal organisations of the financial resources needed to sustain their operations.

Public Urged to Support Investigation

The NDLEA appealed to Nigerians to remain vigilant and report any information regarding the whereabouts of the wanted suspects through its offices and established reporting channels nationwide.

The Agency reaffirmed its determination to rid Nigeria of illicit drug production, trafficking and organised criminal enterprises, while strengthening partnerships with local and international law enforcement agencies to combat transnational drug crimes.

The investigation remains ongoing.
