In a significant step towards reinforcing the foundations of local governance, the Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA) convened its September Peace and Security Meeting on Wednesday, 24th September 2025, marking the first such gathering under the leadership of the newly elected Chairman, Omo’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun.
Held within the Council Secretariat, the session served as a vital forum for open dialogue, uniting security operatives, community leaders, and key stakeholders in a shared commitment to public safety. The atmosphere was one of collaborative resolve, as attendees warmly congratulated the Chairman on his recent assumption of office and pledged their unwavering support for his administration’s vision of a secure and prosperous community.
The meeting provided a platform for a candid assessment of the LCDA’s security landscape, with agencies reporting that Igbogbo/Baiyeku has maintained a period of relative peace in recent months. However, this stability was acknowledged as fragile, necessitating vigilant and proactive measures. Security representatives emphasized the indispensable role of community cooperation, urging residents to embrace the mantra, “If you see something, say something.”
They assured that all intelligence reports would be handled with the utmost confidentiality, highlighting that citizen involvement is the cornerstone of effective, preventive policing. This call to action underscored a shift towards a more integrated approach to safety, where every resident becomes a stakeholder in the community’s well-being.
Several critical issues dominated the deliberations, reflecting the practical concerns of daily life. Stakeholders unanimously called for the banning of scavengers, popularly known as “Bolla,” from communities within the LCDA, recommending the installation of appropriate signage to enforce this measure.
Another focal point was the regulation of commercial motorcyclists, with a push for the issuance of official ID cards and reflective jackets to ensure proper identification amid growing concerns that some riders are involved in drug peddling and other illicit activities. Business owners were urged to fortify security around their establishments, while the Community Development Committee (CDC) was tasked with intensifying public enlightenment campaigns on personal and community safety.
In his closing remarks, Chairman Aroyewun commended the security agencies for their dedication and swift response since the inception of his administration. He firmly reiterated that security is the bedrock of development and called for redoubled efforts to maintain law and order.
Demonstrating a holistic approach, he charged the LCDA Youth Coordinator with rolling out sensitization programmes aimed at reorienting young people away from drugs and social vices. Significantly, he also appealed to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) to address incidents of police brutality, stressing that such actions erode the vital trust between law enforcement and the community.
The meeting concluded with a powerful consensus on the importance of vigilance, synergy, and proactive collaboration, charting a clear course for lasting peace and stability across Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA.
