The Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has laid the foundation for the construction of a Senate Building at the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo City. The groundbreaking event, held on Friday, was part of the university’s 6th Convocation Ceremony and underscored the government’s commitment to advancing education and healthcare delivery in the state.
Addressing attendees, Governor Aiyedatiwa described the ₦1 billion Senate Building project as a forward-looking investment in the institution’s infrastructure and future. He emphasized that the initiative aligns with his administration’s priorities in improving educational standards and healthcare systems.
“The quality of infrastructure and human resources in an institution such as UNIMED is of utmost importance. This Senate Building will stand as a symbol of our collective dedication to excellence in education and healthcare,” he stated.
Government’s Financial Commitment to UNIMED
UNIMED’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adesegun Fatusi, commended the Governor for these financial commitments, emphasizing their role in advancing the university’s growth. He stated that the event marked more than just the conferring of degrees but celebrated UNIMED’s remarkable achievements in academic excellence and infrastructure development.
Celebration of a Decade of Achievements
Governor Aiyedatiwa praised the university for its accomplishments over the past decade, particularly its contributions to producing competent professionals. UNIMED has successfully graduated three cohorts of medical doctors, reflecting its dedication to meeting contemporary educational and professional demands.
The event also celebrated other significant milestones, including the conferment of honorary degrees on prominent individuals such as the Osemawe of Ondo Kingdom, Oba Victor Adesimbo Kiladejo; former Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko; and Chief Isaac Akintade. The Osemawe was also formally installed as the university’s Chancellor.
In his remarks to the graduating students, Governor Aiyedatiwa urged them to uphold values of compassion, innovation, and lifelong learning. “As you embark on your careers, remember that the values instilled in you here will guide your contributions to society,” he advised.
