The Embassy of the Republic of Korea held an elegant dinner in Abuja on Thursday, October 31, 2024, in honor of Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC) Adewale Adeniyi and his management team.

The event highlighted the ongoing strengthening of bilateral ties between the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Korean government, celebrating shared goals in customs modernization and advanced technological collaboration.

CGC Adeniyi attended alongside senior officials, including Deputy Comptroller-General (DCG) of Human Resource Development, Greg Itotoh, DCG of Tariff and Trade, Caroline Niagwan, and DCG of ICT-Modernisation, Kikelomo Adeola.

In his address, CGC Adeniyi expressed gratitude for Korea’s dedicated partnership with the NCS, noting significant advances achieved through the Embassy’s support.

“It is due to our dedicated partnerships that the NCS is now engaged in data analytics programmes, in alignment with World Customs Organization standards,” CGC Adeniyi said.

He explained how these programs enable the NCS to adopt a data-driven approach through predictive, descriptive, and prescriptive insights.

“Learning from global leaders, like Korean Customs, has empowered us to adapt and refine our data-driven strategies,” he added.

Korean Ambassador His Excellency Kim Pankym commended the NCS for its commitment and praised CGC Adeniyi’s leadership.

“We are honored by the Comptroller-General’s presence here tonight, and we look forward to further strengthening ties with the Nigeria Customs Service,” Ambassador Pankym noted, reaffirming the Embassy’s commitment to supporting the NCS in its growth and modernization efforts.

DCG Greg Itotoh also acknowledged Korea’s proactive support, emphasizing its value to the Service’s development.

“The Embassy’s support and willingness to partner with us are instrumental in driving our Service to greater heights. We look forward to continued growth through these collaborations,” Itotoh stated.

The evening served as a testament to the deepening relationship between Nigeria and Korea and underscored Korea’s commitment to Nigeria’s customs modernization and capacity-building initiatives.
